Why Metal Dark Porcelain Slabs Stands Out

Metal Dark distinguishes itself through authentic industrial aesthetics combined with the practical advantages of engineered porcelain. Unlike natural materials that require extensive maintenance or metal surfaces prone to actual oxidation, these premium slabs deliver permanent beauty without the drawbacks.

Authentic Industrial Character

The oxidized metal reproduction captures every nuance of naturally weathered steel, from subtle color variations to rust bloom patterns. This level of realism allows designers to achieve the coveted industrial aesthetic without the unpredictability of genuine metal surfaces.

Superior Surface Performance

Metal Dark slabs deliver exceptional resistance to heat, scratches, stains, and UV exposure. The non-porous surface prevents moisture absorption and bacterial growth, making these premium slabs ideal for food preparation areas and wet environments where hygiene matters most.

Large Format
Advantages

Available in 160x320 cm and 162x324 cm sizes, Metal Dark minimizes seams and grout lines for a cohesive, expansive appearance. The large format installation creates visual continuity that amplifies the dramatic impact of the oxidized metal aesthetic across entire surfaces.

Versatile Thickness Options

Choose between 6mm slabs for wall applications or 12mm slabs for countertops and flooring. This flexibility ensures optimal material selection for each specific application, balancing structural requirements with aesthetic goals and project budgets.

Frequently Asked Questions

Metal Dark porcelain slabs excel in countertop applications due to their exceptional durability and low maintenance requirements. The heat resistant surface allows placement of hot cookware without damage, while the stain resistant, non-porous material prevents absorption of oils, acids, and common kitchen substances. Available in 12mm thickness specifically for countertop installations, Metal Dark provides the structural strength needed for daily use. The large format sizes of 160x320 cm or 162x324 cm minimize seams across expansive counter runs, creating the seamless appearance that defines contemporary kitchen design. According to the National Kitchen and Bath Association, porcelain slabs have become increasingly popular for their combination of aesthetic versatility and practical performance.

The matte finish on Metal Dark enhances the authentic oxidized metal appearance by providing a subtle, non-reflective surface that emphasizes texture and depth. Unlike polished finishes that create high gloss reflections, the matte surface offers a more tactile, natural look that aligns with industrial design aesthetics. This finish also provides practical advantages, including better slip resistance for flooring applications and reduced visibility of fingerprints and water spots on vertical surfaces. The matte treatment complements the rust veining and dark patina effects inherent in Metal Dark's design, creating a cohesive visual statement. Many designers specify matte finishes for spaces seeking understated elegance rather than high shine luxury, making Metal Dark ideal for contemporary residential and commercial projects emphasizing raw, authentic materials.

Metal Dark is available in two thickness options, each optimized for different applications. The 6mm thickness is ideal for wall installations, backsplashes, and shower surrounds where lighter weight reduces structural load and simplifies mounting. This thickness features a rectified edge for precise installations with minimal grout joints. The 12mm thickness provides the structural integrity needed for countertops, vanities, and flooring applications where surfaces must withstand greater physical stress. This thicker option supports cutouts for sinks and cooktops while maintaining durability across unsupported spans. When selecting thickness, consider installation location, structural requirements, and substrate preparation. Resources from the Tile Council of North America provide detailed guidance on proper slab installation methods for various thicknesses and applications.

Yes, we deliver Metal Dark slabs to any of the 48 states in the contiguous United States. Porcelain slabs require special packing and delivery on a large truck due to their size and weight. We safely strap the slabs to an A-frame, load them on one of our trucks, and deliver them directly to your fabricator's address. Please ensure your fabricator has a forklift and slab boom or clamp on site to unload the slabs safely. Our delivery coordination team works closely with fabricators to schedule arrivals that align with project timelines. For customers outside our immediate service area, we can also arrange freight quotes through specialized carriers experienced in handling large format porcelain materials. Schedule a consultation to discuss delivery options and logistics for your specific location.

Absolutely. While we offer store pickup at all four of our Nova Tile and Stone locations in Minden, Reno, Fernley, and Sacramento, we require that you have a truck and A-frame that are properly rated to handle the porcelain slabs. Metal Dark slabs measure up to 162x324 cm and require specialized handling equipment to prevent damage during transport. We will assist you with loading the slabs onto your truck using our equipment, ensuring they are properly secured to your A-frame. Many contractors and fabricators prefer pickup for local projects where they can coordinate transportation directly. Contact your nearest location in advance to verify slab availability and schedule a pickup time that accommodates both your schedule and our loading dock operations. Our team can also provide guidance on proper transportation methods to ensure your slabs arrive at your fabrication facility safely.
